MAINTENANCE OR HOW NOT TO KILL YOUR MUTE

Welcome to the official survival guide by MUTED! by kiiv. Taking care of your mute is actually pretty straightforward, but to ensure we both sleep well at night, here are a few golden rules.

1. Sun & Heat (or “How Not to Make a Pancake”)

Direct Sunlight: Keep your mute in the shade. Leaving it on a windowsill or sunbathing in direct heat will cause it to lose its original shape and character.

Car Trunks & Summer Heat: We did it for science! We tested one of our mutes in a car trunk for two full weeks during an Estonian summer—which, let’s be honest, isn't exactly the Sahara—and it survived and works perfectly. HOWEVER, if your car interior or trunk gets above 60°C (140°F), things get critical. The material will start to soften, and your mute might turn into an abstract art piece.

2. If Accidents Happen (The Floor vs. Gravity Conflict)

We know that things happen on stage and in rehearsal rooms. If your mute slips out of your hand, hits tile or concrete, and develops a crack: 

Don't Panic! You don't need to rush out and buy a new one right away.

First Aid: Your best friend here is Super Glue Gel (the gel version works best!). Apply a small amount of gel directly over the crack to seal it, let it dry for a few moments, and your mute is battle-ready again. The sound won't suffer a bit!

Summary

Play nicely with it, don't bake it, and give it some gel super glue if needed.
